Biography:

Harry James Potter (born July 31, 1980) is the orphaned son of James and Lily Potter. He is unwittingly thrust into the wizarding world as a baby when Lord Voldemort, a powerful dark wizard, attempts to kill him.

Voldemort's Killing Curse rebounds upon him when Lily Potter sacrifices herself to protect Harry, leaving Harry with a lightning-bolt shaped scar on his forehead and Voldemort powerless and bodiless. This event makes Harry famous throughout the wizarding world as "The Boy Who Lived."

After his parents' death, the infant Harry is placed in the care of his neglectful and abusive Muggle (non-magical) relatives, the Dursleys. He remains unaware of his magical heritage until his eleventh birthday, when he learns he is a wizard and destined to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
